Marquee Sign System

System Owner: Brian Larsen

PURPOSE/SCOPE:
To encourage the community and advertise upcoming events happening at theCrossroads.

PROCEDURE:

Preparing a message for the Marquee
  • Choose an appropriate message. It is the Marquee Sign System Leader’s responsibility to “keep the sign fresh” by changing the message regularly (every 2-4 weeks).
  • The message can be an encouraging statement, a short scripture, a humorous line, or a holiday themed statement. The Marquee should be used to advertise any major events happening at theCrossroads (i.e. the title, date and time of an upcoming Big Day).
  • The pastor reserves the right to suggest a message at any time, but must give the Marquee Sign System Leader at least 3-4 days to put the message up from the time the suggestion is made.
  • A message that mentions a specific date must be removed and replaced no more than 3 days after that date has passed. Neglecting to do this gives the community a bad impression of our church.
  • The Marquee should not be used for personal announcements (i.e. birthdays, anniversaries, congratulations, etc) without the express permission of the pastor.

Putting messages on the Marquee
  • Gather the characters (letters, numbers, and symbols) that are required for the new message. These are located in a small black shelf located in the back room east on the east side of the baptismal.
  • Simultaneously create two identical stacks of characters by removing two cards with the first letter of the message from the shelf and set them facedown.
  • Repeat this for each character required for the message. Set the stacks aside.
  • Remove the old message from the marquee and set this stack of letters aside to be put away later. The keys for the Marquee are located in a small black container near the shelf.
  • Put the new message up on the sign. Ensure the message is clear and easy to read. It should be centered with appropriate spacing between words so that the sign is not too crowded or spaced out. Ensure that none of the letters are crooked. Lock the Marquee sign. Return the key to the black container.
  • Immediately, put away the characters that were used for the old message in their designated slots. Characters should not be left out in the open at any time.
  • Log the new message into the “Message Log” located in the Marquee Sign System binder near the character shelf.

Maintenance of the Marquee
  • If there is a mechanical issue with the Marquee, notify the maintenance team as soon as possible. Examples of mechanical issues include broken locks or the Marquee light not working.
  • The outside and inside of the Marquee must be cleaned twice a year: April (Spring) and October (Fall). This includes completely wiping down the Marquee to remove dirt or insects as well as using a glass cleaner on the transparent parts.
  • It is the responsibility of the Lawn and Landscaping System to take care of the area under the sign. Notify the Lawn and Landscaping System Leader if you notice any issues with the landscaping that he/she may not have been aware of. If the issues are minor (small amount of weeds), the System Leader is permitted to resolve the issue himself/herself.
  • Keep the characters put away and organized at all times. Take special care to ensure they are properly put away so that each character is facing the same way. This makes it so that preparing a message for the Marquee is quick and easy.
