System Owner:  Crystal Collins

Purpose and Scope:
This system is to help our Nursery Staff to make all families, especially new families, with small children (newborn to 4 years of age) feel welcomed and loved.

Procedure:

  •  Workers must be in the Nursery by 10:45AM for the 11AM service.  Mid-week service, please be in the nursery by 6:45PM.
  •  Please be friendly and welcoming to the families and children as they arrive.  Introduce yourself and ask for the name of the child/children.
  • Please have parents check in their child, they can do this either in the foyer or in the Nursery.  When helping them through this process please be sure to inquire after any food allergies the child may have, and where they are at in the potty stages (if applicable).  There is also a sign in sheet located on the clipboard on the top shelf for new families to fill out.  Please assign the parent a pager, and write their child’s name on the board beside the pager number.  This is a perfect time to ask the parent how long should we allow their child to fuss/cry before the parent should be paged – this gives us clear insight into the temperament of the child, if there is any separation anxiety that we can help the child grow through, and establishes trust between the parents and Nursery staff.
  • During the time with the children, please focus on them and maintain a safe environment.  Please keep the door locked once service begins.  Encourage the parents to utilize the surveillance system in the hallway to check on their children.  Please listen for any knocks on the door, as mothers will utilize the Nursery to nurse their babies and change diapers at the changing table.
  • Enjoy the children!  Please dress comfortably, as often the babies will engage in play with you. You may establish a routine during your time in the Nursery as you see fit, snack time, play time, clean up time, etc.  You may praise and pray with the little ones as well!
  • Food and toys:  Please have the children have snacks at the table only, and clean up immediately after.  There is a large assortment of toys for the babies to play with, please use your judgement as to what they have access to during their time in the Nursery, as you will be cleaning the toys after service is over.  For example: if cars are requested, have the baby select two cars vs giving them the whole bucket.
  • By the end of service, please begin cleaning the Nursery.  Please wipe down all surfaces and toys touched with Clorox wipes or disinfectant solution, Lysol etc.  Something that kills germs.  Have the babies help you clean up (if applicable) as they can put away toys for you.  Cleaning supplies are under the sink in the Nursery bathroom.  Please disinfect the toys the children played with, and all surfaces that they touch.  Please vacuum as needed and be sure the trash is taken to the garbage can (opposite side door at the sanctuary entrances). Please let Crystal Collins know if cleaning supplies are needed. As parents are picking up their children, please be sure that the pagers are placed back on charging dock, and let the parents know any awesome things their babies did, or if you have any questions or concerns.
  • Should any accident or incident occur in the Nursery, please notify Crystal Collins or Tiff Hansbro immediately, and fill out an Incident Report for our records.  These are located on the clipboard on the top shelf.
