Baptism System

System Owner:

Purpose and Scope:
To encourage, educate and equip people to be baptized in the Name of Jesus’ Christ  just like they were baptized in the New Testament. (Acts 2:38, 10:44-48, 22:16)

Procedures:

1. Pre-service Preparation:

    A. Sundays, Wednesdays (or any service days of revivals etc..) make sure baptismal tank is filled with water and heater is on.
    B. Make sure there are clean underclothes and towels in cabinets
    C. Make sure that baptismal robes are hanging in place
    D. On day of service - if there is a baptism, make sure cover is taken off and water skimmed for an undesirables.

2. Pre-Baptism:

    A. If person being baptized is under 12 years old, personally speak to parents. If under 16 get parental permission.
    B. Ask if they have repented of their sins and if they have received the Holy Ghost, if so, when was the last time they spoke in tongues.
- If they have not repented of their sins, lead them in a prayer of repentance before they get in the water.
- If they have not received the Holy Ghost, or it has been a while since they last spoke in tongues - tell them that they will receive the Holy Ghost / or be refilled            when they come up out of the water if they will lift up their hands, lift up their head and lift up their voice in praise to God.
    C. Have teaching materials available if needed. (Short Bible Study)
    D. Allow baptism candidate to change into robe and notify them of available undergarments, combs, hairdryer, towels, etc.
    E. Make sure to get the full name of baptism candidate to the person who will baptize them prior to the baptism. Be sure to invite family up to watch.
    F. Explain baptismal procedure and remind them to lift their hands and praise God when they come up out of the water.
  • Baptismal Procedure: Cover their mouth and plug their nose with one hand, while holding on to the wrist of that hand with their other. The person baptizing them will hold onto their wrist and the back of their robe to bring them down into the water and back up again once they are fully immersed.
  • They don't need to hold their breath/cover their mouth and nose until the person baptizing them ask them if they are ready to go under - after they have said "upon your faith in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.." Then they will squeeze their wrist a little to let them know they are getting ready to take them under the water.

3. Baptism:

    A. Instruct them to walk up the stairs and into tank. Assist if needed.
    B. Person performing baptism will assist into tank if needed and briefly explain the baptismal procedure again.
    C. Pastor or Person Baptizing will pray over them.
    D. The baptismal participant will be completely submerged underwater and brought back up, while they themselves, the preacher and the person baptizing call on the
         Name of Jesus Christ.
    E. Person baptizing will then pray for/with them so that if they haven't already they will receive the Holy Ghost.

4. Post-Baptism:

    A. When finished, make sure that we have their info for the baptismal certificate.
    B. Take this opportunity to grab a selfie, if appropriate, or a quick picture of them with help.
    C. Find out who they are connected to in the church.
    D. Strongly recommend starting 30 Days to Life immediately (find partner) or a Bible study with their person of connection or mentor.
    E. Check to make sure we have their contact info and get it to the church office.
    F. If possible, snap picture of their connection card and send it to Pastor
    G. Text a congratulatory message to them personally.
